Transformers. The first transformers movie was certainly a blockbuster of epic proportions. Director Michael Bay loves to blow stuff up and America loves watching him do it. Those giant alien robots were great fun to watch. It was a movie that dexterously spanned the age and gender gaps. It has true mass appeal. Spider-Man. There's supposedly a fourth Spider-Man movie in the works. Which makes sense since the first three did so well. Spidey appealed to everyone. From geriatrics to infants. I think a lot of people like Spidey so much because his alter ego Peter Parker is such a warm and humble individual. Batman and Iron Man can both be a bit cocky and they're so rich it not as relatable for some. Spider-Man on the other hand, is the every-man, john q public type super hero. He has flaws and foibles just like a real person, but ultimately he always tries to do the right thing. Spider-Man costumes have already stood the test of time. They've endured since the first movie and are still around. They are one of the safest bets for long term popularity.

Wolverine. The most famous and popular of all the X-Men characters. So much so that he got his own movie. The movie did well, though not as well as was expected. The cartoons and comics are still being gobbled up by children, teens and young adults. Not your best bet for lasting cache, but worth it for true fans.

Power Rangers. Power Rangers were all the rage when I was a kid and that was a long time ago. And they still are. So time-tested? Definitely. What's cool about power ranger costumes is that a bunch of friends can all dress up in the different ranger costumes and be the whole team. They won't get the big movie push that some of the other costumes on this list will get, but they're already a classic in most people's minds. Go! Go! Power Rangers!

G.I. Joe. A new G.I. Joe movie titled G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is set to explode into theaters on August 7, 2009. Will the movie be a hit? If we use the amount of trailers for it on YouTube as a gauge, then yes, it certainly will be. And judging by the fact that the movie's poised to open right on the cusp of Halloween shopping season, I'd say these costumes will generate a firestorm of excitement. As GI Joe himself would say, Knowing is Half the Battle. So now you know.
